It's really good to know people who are using Split Screen for many years now. ![]() I introduced it to my colleagues a few years ago and we’ve all been using it since.Īddendum: I do mostly back-end work, so usually only need one monitor. Release the button and watch as you will be prompted to click on another window to place it right next to the window you. Keep holding the button and drag the window to either the left or the right side. I’ve been using the splitscreen app almost since it was released, and have yet to find a better solution to using and manipulating two screens/apps at the same time. To enter the Mac Split Screen feature, click on the fullscreen button of any window and hold it down until the window shrinks. This app lets me do all that quickly and efficiently. Sometimes I clean data w/ textwrangler and upload data using filezilla or the terminal window at the same time. Step 1: Open an app and click the green full-screen button in the upper-left corner to enter the full-screen mode. Sometimes I use sublimetext and reference github at the same time. Open the two apps or windows you want to split screen on the Mac, if you haven’t done so already. Sometimes I use onenote and a browser at the same time. Sometimes I watch youtube/netflix/hulu and use a browser at the same time. My favorite parts about the app are the ability to assign keyboard shortcuts to moving the windows and it runs with a subtle and clean icon in the top bar making it almost feel built in with OS. The built in OS window splitting implies that if you want to move a window to a side, you have to pair it in half with another window (meaning you have to know which window you want to split half the desktop with) or you have to have it full screen. Mission Control can also exit split view by swiping up with three fingers on the trackpad or pressing the Ctrl + Up arrow on the keyboard. One of the key distinctions here is that you can make it resize in your current desktop with key shortcuts. Now I'm on Mojave but I've kept using this app over the built-in macOS window resizing functionality because it more closely mirrors the windows resizing in Windows and Linux (common distros like Ubuntu). I've been using this app since Yosemite when macOS did not have window splitting in the operating system (this came along in El Capitan). Drag the window to the right or left side and release the mouse button. The window will then resize and you should see a shaded box over the right or left half of the screen. ![]() You have to hold the mouse button for about a second. If you like, you can now grab the divider line and drag it, thereby adjusting the proportion of the screen occupied by each app.If I'm ever setting up a new version of macOS, this is one of the first things I install. To enable split screen on the Mac: Left-click and hold the Full Screen (green) button in the top-left corner of a window. Now you’ve got two windows sharing your screen space 50-50 ( Figure 4-10, bottom). Feel free to drag the divider line sideways to adjust the proportions.Ĭlick the miniature window you want to fill the remaining half of the screen. How to Use Split Screen on a Mac To enter the Split View via macOS Catalina or later, follow these steps: Hover your mouse above the green icon in the top left of an app window. These are apps whose software companies have been too lazy to make them compatible with the Full Screen/Split Screen feature.) Bottom: And voilà: Two apps, perfectly splitting your screen’s full height and width. (There may even be a little pile of additional window cards at the bottom corner. Meanwhile, all other open windows appear in miniature so that you can choose the one you want to fill the other half of your screen. Third from top: Release the mouse that window now fills half of your entire screen. In the top left corner of the window, click and hold the green circle with outward-facing arrows. Second from top: That half of your screen gets a blue tint. To launch split screen in earlier Mac OS X versions: 1. Hello, I’ve been using split screen apps on my Mac for a long time. From there, you can hit F3 to pull up Mission Control and drag another app onto the. Top: Hold down the green button in the first app. Suffice to say, every Mac user should consider using one. The keyboard shortcut to split screen on a Mac is to first enter full screen mode by using control + command + F. Figure 4-10. By adding java moss to the breeding tank, you can also breed another species like red cherry shrimp. Local fish stores typically run out of java moss because it’s quite slow-growing, so you may be able to sell a bucketful of java moss for $20 a month. Java moss is a great candidate because not only is it easy to grow, but it serves double duty by providing cover for your guppy fry and increasing their survival rate. How do you increase your profit? Instead of buying another tank (and additional equipment) to raise more guppies, let’s find a way to make more money using the same tank. If you get a growing colony and are able sell 50 guppies every month for 50₵ each, then you would earn $25 per month. Most small, profitable fish can be easily bred in a 10- or 20-gallon tank, so let’s say you start with a 20-gallon tank, heater, filter, and some assorted guppies. What Should I Buy to Start Breeding Fish? If you’re interested in profitability, sell what the public prefers and keep your interesting, unique fish just for fun. For instance, many shrimp enthusiasts love the striped pattern on rili shrimp, but if you show a rili shrimp versus a solid red cherry shrimp to the general public, they will almost always pick the regular red cherry shrimp because they think there’s something wrong with the rili shrimp missing a patch of color in its midsection. Small, colorful, and hardy fish that breed frequently are usually great options to breed for profit.įinally, remember that what you think is cool is not necessarily what the public wants to buy. Smaller animals can be kept in both little and giant aquariums, so there is a higher demand for them compared to monster fish. Beginners also tend to keep smaller fish tanks, so go with nano species instead of oscars or goldfish. Most people who visit fish stores are beginners, so research what kind of fish they like to buy by reading articles on the top beginner fish for freshwater aquariums. Instead, breed something like assorted guppies that sell for less but are always in demand. Although they may go for a higher price, don’t breed fish like discus, stingrays, or rarer African cichlids because not enough people buy them and you’ll end up with a surplus of fish. You want to select the most profitable fish that are easy to breed and easy to unload, so go to a mainstream pet store and see what kinds of fish they sell in mass quantities. What Are the Best Fish to Breed for Profit? In the beginning stages, you need to vet out any potential problems – such as how to get your fish to breed, whether or not people will buy your fish, and so forth. ![]() Start small, and don’t buy a lot of tanks and equipment at first. ![]() The goal is to be profitable and not run at a loss, which means our #1 tip is to not invest a lot of money in this project. ![]() ![]() That being said, breeding fish as a side gig is a great way to pay for your aquarium hobby expenses. Fish farms produce millions of fish and make very slim profits by selling them for less than $1 each. The reality is that selling fish from home as a full-time job is not a very profitable venture, and most other careers can make you more money for the same amount of time and effort. Based on our experiences from running a fish store, speaking with many fish breeders, and personally breeding fish to sell, we’ve collected the most important things you need to know about the best fish to breed, what supplies to buy, and how to sell them. Fish keeping can be an expensive hobby, so many aquarists wonder if it’s possible to make money by breeding aquarium fish. ![]() ![]() The very first day I installed IE7 Beta 2 I got into the classic endless loop that the XP Service Pack 2 version of IE6 was famous for. You can find out more about, and download IE7 Beta 2, on Microsoft's Internet Explorer page. ![]() Please remove any previous version of IE7 before you install this one. If you're eager to try IE7 Beta 2 for yourself, my advice is not to install it on your everyday machine. On the other hand, saying it's better than IE6 isn't saying much. What's more, were I to go over IE7 feature by feature, I would point out - as I've done with earlier prerelease builds of IE7 - several nicely crafted features and well-designed functionalities (see "Microsoft offers free tech support with Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2"). I can't think of even a small way that Microsoft has taken its browser package in the wrong direction. Although the IE development team has done a commendable job of grafting Microsoft renditions of some worthy Firefox and Opera features onto IE6, as well as heavily revamping security, the forthcoming version of the Web browser doesn't break significant new ground. The sum of IE7's parts isn't greater than the whole. And yet, if there's nothing I've learned about reviewing software and hardware over the last 20 years, it's that if I don't become intrigued when first trying out a product's new features - before I've come across all its warts - I'm unlikely to be an actual user when all is said and done. That's not enough time with a product of this importance and complexity to form a final conclusion. ![]() The fact that I first installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 for Windows XP on April 20 means I haven't even had two weeks with the browser yet. It's quite another to actually live with it, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. ![]() It's one thing to list the features of a new product. ![]() ![]() ![]() The jungle life soon became too much for his wife though, and in 1915 she committed suicide by mercury poisoning.Īfter some years in Buenos Aires and establishing himself as one of Latin America’s greatest writers, with collections of short stories like Tales of Love, Madness and Death, he returned to his San Ignacio home. Another time, he made them sit on the edge of a cliff with their legs dangling over the sharp ledge.ĭuring the years in San Ignacio, Quiroga farmed inhospitable land, whilst continuing to write successful stories and poems. Once, he left them alone in the jungle one night to fend for themselves. From a young age, his offspring were immersed in what could be called dangerous situations, supposedly so that they could overcome fears and go through life being able to overcome any obstacle. He settled down in the wild backwoods of the Misiones area, marrying Ana Maria Cires and having two children. By this time he had already published many short stories, including his famous horror tale The Feather Pillow, and was often compared to his greatest influence, Edgar Allen Poe. ![]() In 1908, he bought the plot of land in the dense jungle region of San Ignacio, where he would build his own bungalow. After four days in detention, he was released without charge. When his friend Frederico Ferrando was challenged to a duel, Quiroga offered to clean and inspect the dueling gun, but accidentally fired it, shooting his friend in the mouth and killing him instantly. ![]() Two years after that, his two brothers died of Typhoid fever, and there was still more tragedy to come in that same year. When Quiroga was twenty two years old, he found the body of his step father who had committed suicide. Before he was even two and a half months old, his father had died by accidentally firing a gun he was carrying. The walkway wound on like a labyrinth, and every few metres there would be panels detailing the life story of the writer.Īnd what a tragic world surrounded the life of Quiroga! With each short stroll to the next biographical display board, the reader becomes more and more depressed, and yet the tragedy that struck the novelist’s life was to such an immense degree, that one can’t help but find it a trifle funny, forgetting for a moment that this story is actually true and not one of Quiroga’s inventions. Simply walking through the tall bamboo-like sticks that completely sheltered any view of the house was interesting enough. The narrow trail was walled by tall, all encompassing sugarcane poles. I did so, stood at their front door, and was pointed to a path that led to the writer’s house. But it was the right place to purchase a ticket. Some locals were lounging in the sun by the porch. Finally, I arrived at a modern looking Argentinian house at the end of a path. I gave up relying on their information, wondering how long the walk was going to be. After another five hundred metres I’d find a sign saying ‘700 metros’. Eight hundred metres later, another would say ‘500 metros’ again. The signs seemed to be a joke erected by bored townsfolk. I followed the crudely hand painted signs and arrows that led down the dusty roads, pointing the way to his house. Seeing as I was spending two nights in the town and had already seen the ruins, I decided I might as well locate Quiroga’s house, which is open to the public as a museum. A macabre writer of stories, comparable to Edgar Allan Poe in their sheer darkness and suspense, but one I’d never actually heard of. The town has another tourist site, which isn’t frequented half as much: the house of Uruguayan novelist and poet Horacio Quiroga. They arrive to see San Ignacio Mini, one of the best preserved ruins of the splendid seventeenth century Jesuit missions. The researchers differ in their reasons for obtaining such data, and in the number of studies involved. Since it is not always possible to obtain the raw data directly from the authors, one is forced to make do with the information that can be recovered from the articles. Researchers often wish to carry out additional calculations or analyses using the survival data from studies of other authors. Compared with previous approaches, one advantage of ours is that there is no observer variation: there is no need to repeat the digitization process, since the extraction is completely replicable. When it is not possible to obtain the raw data from the authors, reconstruction techniques are a valuable alternative. We found that the PostScript used by Stata discloses considerably more of the data hidden behind survival curves than that generated by other statistical packages. If the original images can be obtained as a PostScript file, the data recovered from it can then be either input into these tools or processed directly. If the raster-based images are available, one can reliably recover much of the original information that seems to be ‘hidden’ beneath published survival curves. We focus on the additional precision, and elimination of observer variation, achieved by using vector-based formats rendered by PostScript, rather than the lower resolution image-based formats that have been analyzed up to now. Using examples, and a formal error analysis, we illustrate the extent to which, with what accuracy and precision, and in what circumstances, this information can be recovered from the various electronic formats in which such curves are published. Instead of using a digitizer to read in the coordinates from a raster image, we propose directly reading in the lines of the PostScript file of a vector image. Several authors have proposed methods/tools for extracting data from such curves using a digitizing software. When it is not possible to obtain the raw data directly, reconstruction techniques provide a valuable alternative. Researchers often wish to carry out additional calculations or analyses using the survival data from one or more studies of other authors. ![]() |
